Farm Crew Member

(part-time)

Swallowtail Farm is a small, sustainable, family farm located between East Lansing and Mason. We focus on selling veggies and flowers directly to local consumers. We are seeking a part-time person or persons to help in our farm operation. We are most interested in those with availability Mondays and/or Thursdays morning/early afternoon.

Tasks will include: planting, harvesting, weeding, produce preparation, bed preparation, did we mention weeding? ;) The work will be very physical, including lifting (up to 50 lbs) and lots of bending.  We are hoping to find folks who would be comfortable using handheld gas powered equipment such a backpack blower and weed whacker.

Qualifications:  Candidates should be at least 18 years of age.  Experience in gardening, farming, or landscaping is preferred, but not a requirement. Ability to complete physical tasks in a variety of weather conditions is essential. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Schedule: We normally work Mondays through Thursdays from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. This is a part time position and we recognize that it will need to fit into other things in candidates lives. Thus, we are open if the right candidate just has a day or two a week they can commit and we might hire more than one person. Generally, we want folks who can work a regular schedule week-to-week and have it fit within the morning/ early afternoon window. We are hoping to find someone who can commit at least through our whole growing season (November) and there is the possibility of longer term employment.
